3 Nikau Park was designed to make the most of a small town section, going two stories to allow for indoor-outdoor living to a plentiful garden and yard, and maximizing the sunshine to the living spaces. 3 Nikau Park finds a balance between a super insulated, high-performance modern house and the warmth and coziness of a long established home. We made use of a lot of recycled materials in the internal finishes, using reclaimed matai floors out of an old schoolhouse and refinished rimu weatherboards for interior trim, as well as combing TradeMe for fixtures and fittings. The more traditional look of the exterior was inspired by both classic NZ schoolhouses and the farmhouses of the northeastern US where I grew up.
